Corey Logan Trilogy

In the Corey Logan Trilogy we have a self aware man, who’s inwardly oriented, a master of emotional complexity, but not at all good at negotiating his way in the world, paired with a tough, self-reliant, not so self aware woman, who’s literally able to navigate on her own in wild country, and extremely able in the world. And as, against all odds, they fall in love, we’ll find that they’re remarkably good at doing very hard things together.

“The world’s best mystery writers — Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammet — create a sense of place where their characters live and breathe and stab people. Weissbourd’s Corey Logan Trilogy is in that tradition … living through stories that would give any of us the chills.” – Brendan Kiley, The Stranger, arts & culture reporter, The Seattle Times

“I was quite taken with the characters: the story, the craft and the wisdom of the book … On every level your characters surprise me and I particularly like the way they relate to each other.” – David Field, screenwriter, former studio executive, United Artists and 20th Century Fox

Corey Logan was set up. She knows Nick Season’s terrible secret. Coming home from prison, all Corey wants is to be with her son. To get him back, she needs to make a good impression on the psychiatrist evaluating her. Dr. Abe Stein doesn’t believe she was framed — until his well-heeled mother falls for the charming state attorney general candidate, Nick Season. As the dogs of war are unleashed, Corey and her son run for their lives — taking her boat up the Pacific Northwest’s remote Inside Passage. Inside Passage is the first in Weissbourd’s haunting, heart-stirring Corey Logan Trilogy.

Billy attends the Olympic Academy, where two friends, Maisie and Aaron, are experimenting with sex and drugs. They’ve become close to Star, a streetwise seductress who leads them down a treacherous path. “I have read all of Burt Weissbourd’s Corey Logan novels and Minos is the best yet. These are taut thrillers which take you deep inside the human mind. Weissbourd is a master storyteller and a major American voice. These books transcend the expectations of genre fiction to become literature.” – Jacob Epstein, writer, Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law

Minos is the third work in the Corey Logan Trilogy. The title derives from the mythical king of Crete who every lunar year condemns seven Athenian youths and seven maidens to be eaten by the ferocious Minotaur. Minos begins at the Olympic Academy, where Billy’s friend Sara has just carved a magic circle in the hardwood bathroom floor with an ancient double-edged dagger. She twirls inside her circle calling on the Oracle of Apollo to help her find a modern-day Theseus, the reincarnation of Athens’ “hero of all heroes” who slew the Minotaur. Lost in her magical dance, she knocks over a candle, sets fire to the curtains, and is suspended from school. She is sent to Abe for treatment.

Abe discovers that Sara has patched together an entire mythological universe and language with which she tries to make him see that lives are at stake. It is not easy to convince the authorities. But Corey knows that young people are indeed being murdered, and soon Sara’s dire warnings begin to make sense. But who is the modern-day descendant of Minos? The key is inside Sara’s head.
