“I have a soft spot for minor characters, people who live at the edges of stories and don’t get that many lines but punch way above their weight in terms of color—so for me, Doc and Andre are some of the most memorable characters in “Danger in Plain Sight.” They’re tough guys with complicated pasts and some delicate touches: Doc’s history as a Vietnam medic makes him a good under-the-table emergency surgeon and Andre’s the Caribbean guy with a prosthetic leg, skills you’d probably rather not know about, and a golden palate. Characters like that make a story stick.”
